The American Red Cross Connecticut Chapter is helping eight people – four adults and four children – in two families after they were displaced by a fire Sunday night on Austin Road in Waterbury. The Red Cross is providing temporary lodging and financial assistance for emergency clothing and food needs.

The Red Cross also canteened the fire for first responders, providing hot beverages and snacks.  “We provide canteen service to help first responders stay hydrated and keep up their energy levels during responses,” said Sandi Cole, Director of Emergency Services for the Connecticut Chapter.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
